  • Hit by a drunk driver twice. In the second accident, he was thrown twenty feet and doctors told him that he would never ride again. As of 2003, he is still a pro bmx rider.

Syracuse, New York and raised in the small town of Chittenango, NY. Mirra started riding BMX when he was about eight years old and started jumping curbs, flying over homemade ramps and trying any other trick he could think of. By the time he was 13, freestyle BMX was becoming big and Dave Mirra started to get noticed for his amazing flatland tricks and big air maneuvers.

Dave Mirra turned pro in 1992 at the age of 18 and it wasn't long before he became the master of BMX vert riding. But the next year, Dave Mirra was hit by a drunk driver while crossing the street and doctors said he might never be able to ride BMX again. Dave Mirra is now considered a freestyle BMX legend. He's won 18 medals at the X Games, including 12 gold, making him the most decorated athlete in X Games history! Dave Mirra has invented dozens of freestyle BMX tricks and was the first rider to pull off a double back flip in competition. His amazing maneuvers on the bike have earned him the nickname, Miracle Boy and he even has his own video game for the Playstation 2 called Dave Mirra: Freestyle BMX.
