Eduardo Verástegui is a Mexican model, singer and actor.
Biography
Born in Xicotencatl, Tamaulipas, México, Verástegui moved to Mexico City to pursue modelling, landing work with Calvin Klein among others. Soon after, in 1994, he shot to fame as a member of the Mexican pop group, Kairo. In 1997, Verástegui began acting in Mexican telenovelas produced by Televisa.
In 2001 Verástegui moved to Miami and signed a recording contract as a solo artist with Universal Music Latino and recorded his first self-titled album. In the same year he made an appearance in the Jennifer Lopez music video "Ain't It Funny". Two years later, in 2003, Verástegui was chosen as the lead character in the Latin comedy Chasing Papi, alongside Jaci Velasquez, Sofia Vergara, and Roselyn Sanchez. The film grossed $12 million worldwide. He was voted among the 50 "hottest" Hispanics by People en Español magazine.
Before filming commenced on Chasing Papi Verástegui took voice-coaching lessons to improve his English pronunciation. The coach was a committed Christian and in the course of their conversations Verástegui re-discovered his faith and resolved to change his lifestyle. He refused roles in films which conflicted with his beliefs and co-founded the production company Metanoia . The company's first film Bella, which starred Verástegui was released in 2006 and won the People's Choice award at the 2007 Toronto Film Festival.
