He starred in many TV dramas such as Love Generation , Long Vacation, Gift, Beautiful Life, HERO, Good Luck!! and Pride. These drama were well accepted by audiences and got high rating viewership, establishing him as the king of Japanese TV drama. He is also appearing in the upcoming Chinese movie 2046.

Kimura is one of the most popular artists in Japan of all time. He has in the past won the "Best Jeanist" award, which is given annually to one male and one female celebrity who looks good in jeans.
