 Synopsis
In A Cinderella Story - a twisted and hilarious update of the classic fairy tale - high school senior Sam Montgomery (Hilary Duff) lives at the beck and call of her self-obsessed step-mother Fiona (Jennifer Coolidge) and her sinfully wicked step-sisters, who treat her more like a servant than a member of the family. Her prince charming whom she meets online, turns out to be her high school's popular quarterback Austin Ames (Chad Michael Murray). Sam makes a mad dash back to reality, leaving her cell phone behind just before the clock strikes midnight. Fearing rejection if her secret is revealed, Sam dodges Austin's efforts to discover the identity of his princess.

Grade : C +
Boston Globe - To say the new Hilary Duff movie, ''A Cinderella Story,'' is deeply, proudly average shouldn't dissuade you from taking your daughters. I can't imagine anyone over 14 and not in full-on chaperone mode going to this high school revamp of the classic fairy tale on their own, but the film, by pleasantly, predictably hitting the sweet spot for the 'tweener crowd, hits a different sweet spot for parents.    more

Grade : C -
Chicago Sun-Times - Anyway, this is a lame, stupid movie, but Warner Bros. is spending a fortune, Byron, to persuade you to see it and recommend it to your mom and Jasmine. So you must be strong and wise, and do your research   more

Grade : C
Chicago Tribune - Of all the teen performers out there, Duff has to be the blandest (especially since the Olsens hit the skids). And although her Lizzie McGuire character was awkward and fringe-esque, her post-Lizzie persona (fresh-faced MTV girl) leaves her looking like the unlikeliest outcast in America. Duff needed to channel TV-Lizzie for this role, but instead she gives us milquetoast.   more
