Out of desperation, he contacts the inventor of the process, Dr. Howard Mierzwiak (Tom Wilkinson), to have Clementine removed from his own memory. But as Joel's memories progressively disappear, he begins to rediscover their earlier passion. From deep within the recesses of his brain, Joel attempts to escape the procedure. Carrey manages to obfuscate so effectively his own larger-than-life personality, that, when he's on screen, we see Joel, not Jim.   more Grade : B San Francisco Chronicle : Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, is not about how love conquers all but about how people can be weak and foolish and waste their lives on stupid, destructive relationships. It's a cold movie about love that was meant to be cold.
