Boston Globe - Radcliffe, who played Potter so dutifully in the first two movies, seems to have come into his own. He appears to be on the cusp of gangliness and hormones, and this is the movie where he transitions into an actor's body. This Harry is often furious and pained. In the opening scene, the boy comes close to a nuclear meltdown, shivering as he turns his rude Aunt Marge (Pam Ferris) into a blimp at the dinner table. As she swells and sails into the stratosphere, Harry stands back helpless with anger and awe. He could be Sissy Spacek's Carrie at the end of the prom.    more

Grade : B +
Chicago Sun-Times - Is ''Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban'' as good as the first two films? Not quite. It doesn't have that sense of joyously leaping through a clockwork plot, and it needs to explain more than it should. But the world of Harry Potter remains delightful, amusing and sophisticated; the challenge in the films ahead will be to protect its fragile innocence and not descend into the world of conventional teen thrillers.   more

Grade : A -
Chicago Tribune - Cuaron and the producers may have felt a three-hour family movie wasn't a good idea, but fans of the book will find more missing from this installment than the previous two, whether in the capturing of everyday Hogwarts life or the back story that gives substance to the inevitable yet sufficiently surprising twists.   more
