 Synopsis

Grade : B
Boston Globe - First off, it's written more cleverly than you might expect, with occasionally funny one-liners (''It was a match made in Trenton'') and the good sense not to take itself too seriously most of the time. Whenever screenwriters Melissa Carter and Elisa Bell let their heroine's narration get overly wide-eyed, they redeem themselves with a sharp bit of dialogue or delicious sendup that British director Nick Hurran has no qualms about playing to the hilt.   more

Grade : B
Chicago Sun-Times - Well, in the first place, I think Brittany Murphy is a great deal more talented than some people do. I wouldn't compare her with Marilyn Monroe, who is incomparable, but she has a similar ability to draw our eyes to her segment of the screen, even when the action is ostensibly elsewhere. She does this not with sex appeal but with life force. See her in such completely various roles as Eminem's tough girlfriend in ''8 Mile'' and a rich girl's nanny in the underrated ''Uptown Girls''; she has the quality of seeming immediately there on the screen, open to possibility, unrehearsed, unstudied, natural, appealing. She hasn't had the roles yet to prove it, but she is a born movie star.   more

Grade : B
Chicago Tribune - The premise isn't new, but the execution is. ''Little Black Book'' occasionally wavers in search of tone (and indeed, it could be a bit darker). Director Nick Hurran, however, rises to the task of making us empathize with Stacy--even when her duplicitous behavior crosses over into villainy as she drives a wedge between Derek and ex-turned-friend Joyce Adams (Julianne Nicholson).   more
