 Critic Reviews

Grade : B-
Seattle Post-Intelligencer : there's no doubt that Hudson herself has the stuff of a star. The camera loves her, she's got an instinctive flair for comedy and, as formulaic and forgettable as this movie is, she makes good company for a couple of hours in the dark.   more

Grade : C
ReelViews : Nevertheless, it's impossible to deny that Raising Helen is a near clone of Jersey Girl. There are three significant differences: the main character in Raising Helen is a woman, there are three children instead of one, and the re-location in this film is from New Jersey to New York City, rather than the other way around.   more

Grade : D+
Cincinnati Enquirer : The only characters in Raising Helen who reveal any glimmer of realistic life are the kids - particularly Hayden Panettiere as the resentful teen sister of two younger siblings - and Helen Mirren as movie-Helen's dragon lady of a boss.    more

Grade : C-
New York Times : Raising Helen, a soft-hearted, squishy-minded prototype for a network sitcom, is mildly ingratiating but never laugh-out-loud funny. Even Ms. Hudson's intrepid radiance can't camouflage the premise's leaky foundation.    more
