 Critic Reviews

Grade : A-
ReelViews - The best material in Shark Tale involves Don Lino and Sykes. The De Niro/Scorsese dialogue will be most amusing to adults, since they'll get the sly references. They will also recognize the significance of the mole on Don Lino's face and Sykes' bushy eyebrows. Will Smith is perhaps a little too high energy as Oscar. Listening to him do his shtick is a little exhausting.    more

Grade : B
Chicago Tribune - Packed with topical and inside-movie gags and all-star voiceovers, and enacted against a dreamy underwater cartoon world that resembles a sunken New York City film noir gangster-land, this movie is a standard Hollywood product. But standard product can entertain you, sometimes quite a bit, when it's done with expertise, flash and lots of stars. ''Shark Tale,'' which was co-written and co-directed by veterans of ''Ice Age,'' ''Shrek'' and ''The Road to El Dorado,'' boasts a really spectacular cast to voice those reasonably funny jokes.   more

Grade : C+
Chicago Sun-Times - The movie is the latest production of DreamWorks Animation, co-directed by Vicky Jenson (''Shrek''), Bibo Bergeron (''The Road to El Dorado'') and Rob Letterman. It takes place on an underwater reef where sharks are the local gangsters, and run things from their headquarters on the hulk of the Titanic. Coral formations, undersea debris and vegetation combine to create an aquatic Times Square, and, as in ''Shrek 2,'' real retailers have their Toon equivalents.   more

Grade : C-
New York Post - The animators - including director Vicky Jenson, who also co-directed the first ''Shrek'' - seem to have channeled most of their energy into creating characters who resemble the actors giving them voice, emphasizing such features as De Niro's mole, Smith's ears, Zellweger's cheeks and, of course, Jolie's lips.    more
