 Synopsis
Catastrophe, hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, tidal waves, floods and maybe the beginning of the next Ice Age.. disasters sounds scary, but all this could be caused by abrupt climate change if the greenhouse effect and global warming continued at such levels. The story of this big-budget, mega-event epic motion picture is all about a paleoclimatologist (a scientist who studies the ways weather patterns changed in the past), Professor Adrian Hall (Quaid), who tries to save the world from the effects of global warming while also trying to get to his son, Sam (Gyllenhaal), who was in New York City as part of a scholastic competition, when a massive snow storm pounds the city. And to add on to the miseries he's also going against the flow, as humanity races south to warmer climets, and he's nearly the only one going north.
 Critic Reviews

Grade : C+
Chicago Sun-Times : So, yes, the movie is profoundly silly. What surprised me is that it's also very scary. The special effects are on such an awesome scale that the movie works despite its cornball plotting.   more

Grade : B-
Cincinnati Enquirer : This year, that movie is The Day After Tomorrow, a florid end-of-the-world-as-we-know-it fantasy with splendiferous special effects. The disaster in question is environmental.   more

Grade : C-
filmcritic.com : These disastrous scenarios come courtesy of some abrupt climate shifts that Hall shouts about in his best Chicken Little voice. Global warming, it seems, is melting the Earth’s ice caps, which in turn are affecting the temperatures of ocean currents that create our warmer climate regions.   more

Grade : B
San Francisco Chronicle : As in every disaster movie ever made, this one stars its Cassandra, who knows the future, warns everybody about it and, in return, gets treated like an eccentric crank.    more
