 Critic Reviews

Grade : C-
filmcritic.com : Van Helsing holds deeper ambitions but marries itself to the mythology of comics, not classics. The werewolf character contributes nothing to Dracula’s overall scheme, but Sommers drags him into the fray because he’s a traditional Universal Studios villain.    more

Grade : D-
ReelViews : The storyline is simple enough, as befits a screenplay written with pre-pubescent boys in mind. It's also excruciatingly dumb, but that probably won't come as a surprise to many people. After all, how many smart monster movies are there?   more

Grade : C
New York Times : The brawling ghouls, vampires and werewolves wreaking havoc in Dracula's castle under a full moon -- to say nothing of the semiromantic mumbo jumbo passing between Anna and Van Helsing in midfight -- are part of a clattering, hectic spectacle that, by the end, has almost completely run out of ideas and inspiration.   more
