Maura Tierney: To undergo breast tumor surgery

American actress Maura Tierney said on July 13, 2009 that she would undergo a surgery to remove her breast tumor.

Doctors are expecting a full recovery.

Maura Tierney is well known for her roles as Lisa Miller on the 1990s situation comedy "NewsRadio" and for her Emmy-nominated role as Dr. Abby Lockhart on the medical drama "ER" playing a nurse who becomes a doctor. She is acting in the latest NBC series "Parenthood". The production of family drama "Parenthood" has been delayed after finding out she has a tumor that requires surgery.

The 44 year old Tierney said that NBC's announcement on last Friday about the delay "has unfortunately caused some confusion and undue alarm" about her health.

In a statement, Tierney said, "I have discovered a tumor in my breast which requires surgery. I will not know either my exact diagnosis or course of treatment until that surgery is performed. My doctors have all assured me this is a very treatable condition. I'm very optimistic as to the outcome and want to thank everyone who has sent positive thoughts and support. I look forward to going back to work soon".

Maura Tierney has appeared on the big screen in such films as "Primal Fear", "Forces of Nature", "Liar Liar" and in last year's Tina Fey comedy "Baby Mama". In "Liar Liar", she played the role of Jim Carrey's wife.
